Growing Up with Football
Kylian Hazard was born in La Louvière, Belgium, and grew up in Braine-le-Comte. His parents, Carine and Thierry, were both football players in Belgium. His father, Thierry, played as a semi-professional defensive midfielder for La Louvière. His mother, Carine, was a striker in the top women's league in Belgium. She stopped playing when she was pregnant with Eden, her oldest son.
After their playing careers, both of Kylian's parents became sports teachers. His father, Thierry, stopped teaching in 2009 to focus more on his children's football careers.
Kylian is the third of four brothers. His oldest brother, Eden, played for famous clubs like Lille in France, Chelsea in England, and Real Madrid in Spain. His other older brother, Thorgan, also played for Chelsea and later for Borussia Mönchengladbach and Dortmund. Kylian's younger brother, Ethan, is currently in the youth academy at Tubize. All three older brothers also played there when they were younger.
The Hazard brothers grew up in a supportive home. Their house was very close to a football training ground. The brothers often used a small hole in the fence to get onto the pitch. This allowed them to practice and improve their football skills whenever they wanted.
Kylian started his professional football journey at White Star Bruxelles in 2013. Before that, he spent two years learning and playing at the Lille academy.
Kylian's Club Journey
After playing one season in the Belgian Second Division, Kylian joined Pro League team Zulte Waregem on June 25, 2014. He signed a two-year contract. His brother Thorgan had also played for Zulte Waregem before.
Kylian played his first professional game for Zulte Waregem on August 7, 2014. It was a UEFA Europa League match against Shakhtyor Soligorsk. He came into the game as a substitute. His team did not win the match. Kylian played only five games for Zulte Waregem in total.
On June 27, 2015, Kylian signed a three-year contract with Újpest, a team in Hungary. He made his first appearance for Újpest on July 18, 2015, in a game that ended in a 0–0 draw. On November 21, 2015, Kylian scored his first goal for Újpest in a 2–1 away win against Honvéd.
Time at Chelsea and Cercle Brugge
Kylian joined Premier League club Chelsea on August 29, 2017. He was placed in the club's development squad, which is for younger players learning and growing.
After a year at Chelsea, he signed a new two-year deal. He was then sent on loan to Cercle Brugge for a season. This meant he would play for Cercle Brugge for a year while still being a Chelsea player.
On May 5, 2019, it was announced that Kylian's move to Cercle Brugge would become permanent starting July 1, 2019. This meant he officially left Chelsea to join Cercle Brugge full-time. In January 2021, he was moved to the reserve team for disciplinary reasons.
Moving to RWDM and Beveren
On January 31, 2022, Kylian was loaned to RWDM until the end of the season. This loan included an option for RWDM to buy him permanently. He played his first game for RWDM on February 13, coming on as a substitute in a 1–0 win.
After his loan, Cercle Brugge ended his contract. Kylian then signed a two-year contract with RWDM. He helped RWDM get promoted to the 2023–24 Belgian Pro League, which is the top football league in Belgium.
However, Kylian suffered a serious knee injury (an ACL tear) in the summer of 2023. This injury meant he could not play for RWDM during the first half of the season.
On February 1, 2024, Kylian moved on loan to Beveren. As of July 2025, he is playing for Royale Union Tubize-Braine.
