Kylian Hazard's Early Life
Kylian Hazard was born in La Louvière, Belgium. He grew up in a town called Braine-le-Comte. Both of his parents, Carine and Thierry, were footballers in Belgium.
A Family of Footballers
Kylian's dad, Thierry, played as a semi-professional defensive midfielder for La Louvière. His mom, Carine, was a striker in the top women's league. She stopped playing when she was pregnant with her first son, Eden. After their playing careers, both parents became sports teachers. In 2009, Thierry stopped teaching to focus more on his children's football careers.
The Hazard Brothers
Kylian is the third of four brothers.
- His oldest brother, Eden, played for big clubs like Lille, Chelsea, and Real Madrid.
- His other older brother, Thorgan, also played for Chelsea. He later moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach and then to Dortmund.
- His youngest brother, Ethan, is currently in the youth academy of Tubize. All three older brothers, Eden, Thorgan, and Kylian, also played there when they were younger.
The Hazard brothers grew up in a supportive home. Their house was very close to a football training ground. The brothers often found a small hole in the fence to sneak onto the pitch. This allowed them to practice and improve their football skills whenever they wanted.
Kylian started his professional football journey at White Star Bruxelles in 2013. Before that, he spent two years learning at the Lille academy.
Kylian Hazard's Club Journey
After playing one season in the Belgian Second Division, Kylian joined Pro League team Zulte Waregem. This happened on June 25, 2014. He signed a two-year contract. His older brother, Thorgan, had also played for Zulte Waregem on loan.
Making His Debut
Kylian played his first professional game for Zulte Waregem on August 7, 2014. This was during a UEFA Europa League qualifying match against a team from Belarus. He came on as a substitute in the 69th minute. His team lost the game and was knocked out of the tournament.
Kylian made his first start for Zulte Waregem on January 21, 2015. This was in a Belgian Cup match. He played only five games for Zulte Waregem in total.
Moving to Hungary
On June 27, 2015, Kylian signed a three-year contract with a Hungarian team called Újpest. He played his first game for Újpest on July 18, 2015, which ended in a 0–0 draw. On November 21, 2015, Kylian scored his first goal for the club. It was in an away game that Újpest won 2–1.
Time at Chelsea and Loan Spells
On August 29, 2017, Kylian Hazard joined Premier League club Chelsea. He was placed in the club's development squad, which is for younger players learning and growing.
Even though some thought he might leave Chelsea after a year, he signed a new two-year deal. Then, he was sent on loan to Cercle Brugge for a whole season. This is common for young players to get more playing time.
On May 5, 2019, it was announced that Kylian's move to Cercle Brugge would become permanent. This meant he officially joined the club on July 1, 2019. In January 2021, he was moved to the reserve team for disciplinary reasons.
Return to Belgium
On January 31, 2022, Kylian was loaned to RWDM until the end of the season. The club also had an option to buy him permanently. He played his first game for RWDM on February 13, coming on as a substitute. His team won the game 1–0.
After his loan, Cercle Brugge ended his contract. Kylian then signed a two-year contract with RWDM. He helped RWDM get promoted to the 2023–24 Belgian Pro League, which is a higher league. However, he suffered a serious knee injury (an ACL tear) in the summer of 2023. This meant he could not play for the first half of the season.
On February 1, 2024, Kylian moved on loan to Beveren.
