Kylie Bracknell, also known as Kylie Farmer or Kaarljilba Kaardn, is an amazing Aboriginal Australian writer, director, and actress. She is known for her fantastic work in theatre, film, and television. She often uses the Noongar language in her projects.

Kylie Bracknell's Career
Kylie has had many exciting roles. She played Juliet in Romeo and Juliet with the Australian Shakespeare Company. She was also in the play The Sapphires in 2010. You might have seen her in the TV show Dramatically Black or the theatre show Aliwa!. She also narrated the NITV series Waabiny Time.
More recently, as Kylie Bracknell, she acted in Nakkiah Lui's play Black is the New White. She also appeared in the movie I Met a Girl. Kids might know her voice as Ally in the animated TV show Little J & Big Cuz. She also plays Piper in the TV series Irreverent.
The Noongar language and culture are very important in Kylie's work. She spent 11 years at the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company. This is an Aboriginal-led theatre company in Perth, which is in Noongar country.
In 2012, Kylie translated some of Shakespeare's sonnets into Noongar. She performed them at the famous Globe Theatre in London. She performed with other Noongar actors, Kyle Morrison and Trevor Ryan.
In 2020, Kylie helped translate and directed a Noongar version of Shakespeare's Macbeth. It was called Hecate and was highly praised. This was the first full Shakespeare play performed in an Indigenous Australian language.
In 2021, she helped translate, produce, and direct a Noongar version of the 1972 Bruce Lee film Fist of Fury. It was renamed Fist of Fury Noongar Daa. Kylie also helped translate and direct Noongar episodes of Little J & Big Cuz.
Kylie Bracknell was given the 2020 Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award for her great work.
Advocating for Language
Kylie Bracknell is a strong supporter of Aboriginal languages. She has spoken about this at events like TEDxManly. She has also appeared on the ABC program Q&A to share her views.
She has taught the Noongar language to young people in country towns. This was part of the Community Arts Network's Noongar Pop Culture project. She also taught through the TV series Waabiny Time and online videos.
