Kym Whitley is a talented American comedian, actress, and podcaster. She is well-known for her roles in many TV shows. Some of these include My Brother and Me, Sparks, Animal Practice, The Boondocks, Young & Hungry, and The Parkers. Kym Whitley was even nominated for an award in 2004. This was for her great acting as Ormandy in the comedy movie Deliver Us From Eva.

Kym Whitley's Early Life and School
Kym Whitley's father, William Whitley, was a founding partner in an important architectural company. This company helped design and build Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. This stadium is home to the Cleveland Guardians baseball team.
Kym went to Shaker Heights High School and graduated in 1979. After high school, she attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. While at Fisk, she joined the Alpha Beta chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
Kym Whitley's Acting Career
Kym Whitley started her acting journey in 1989. She got a big role in Shelly Garrett's popular play Beauty Shop. This play began in Los Angeles and then toured across the United States.
Kym had important roles in TV shows like My Brother and Me and Sparks. She also appeared as a guest star on many other sitcoms. These include The Parent 'Hood, Married... with Children, Moesha, That's So Raven, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She also hosted a show called Oh Drama on BET in 2000.
In 2010, Kym Whitley co-hosted a talk show with R&B singer Brian McKnight. From 2012 to 2013, she had a repeating role on the BET comedy Let's Stay Together. She played the character Charmaine Wax.
On April 20, 2013, Kym's own reality show, Raising Whitley, started on the Oprah Winfrey Network. It was very popular, with 1.2 million viewers for its first episode. This made it one of the most-watched premieres on the network. The show was so successful that it got a second season, which began in January 2014.
After Raising Whitley, Kym joined the cast of the TV show Young & Hungry in 2014. She played Yolanda, who was Josh's housekeeper. This show aired on ABC Family (now Freeform) and ran for five seasons until 2018.
In 2017, Kym Whitley was a guest star in the web series The Bay. She played Big Candi and was even nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for her role. In 2018, she appeared in an episode of Master of None called "Thanksgiving". She played Denise's aunt Joyce. This episode won an Emmy for Best Writing. Kym also became a regular guest host on the E! shows Daily Pop and Nightly Pop. In 2023, she played Aunt Nadine in the movie You People.
Kym Whitley's Personal Life
Kym Whitley is related to actor and martial artist Michael Jai White. She has two older brothers named Kyle and Scott. In January 2011, Kym adopted her son, Joshua.
In 2013, Kym and her friend Rodney Van Johnson started a special line of t-shirts. These shirts are called "Don't Feed Me." They help tell caregivers about children who have specific food allergies. This helps keep kids safe.
