Kym Whitley (born July 21, 1962) is a funny American comedian, actress, and podcaster. She is famous for her roles in many TV shows. Some of these include My Brother and Me, Sparks, Animal Practice, and Young & Hungry.
Kym Whitley also lent her voice to animated shows like The Boondocks and The Cleveland Show. She was nominated for a BET Comedy Award in 2004. This was for her role as Ormandy in the movie Deliver Us From Eva.

Early life and education
Kym Whitley was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Her parents are Kaysonia and William Whitley. Her father was a founding partner of a company called Whitley and Whitley. This company was a black architectural firm.
They helped design important buildings in Cleveland. These included Tower City Center and the Cleveland State University Convocation Center. They also worked on Progressive Field, where the Cleveland Indians baseball team plays.
Kym went to Shaker Heights High School and graduated in 1979. She then studied at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. While there, she joined the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
Career
Kym Whitley got her big start in 1989. She starred in a popular play called Beauty Shop. This play began in Los Angeles and toured across the United States.
Kym had important acting roles in TV shows like My Brother and Me and Sparks. She also made guest appearances on many other sitcoms. These include The Parent 'Hood, Married... with Children, and That's So Raven.
In 2000, Kym hosted a show on BET called Oh Drama. She also had a small part in the movie Next Friday. In 2010, she co-hosted The Brian McKnight Show. From 2012 to 2013, Kym had a recurring role as Charmaine Wax on the BET comedy Let's Stay Together.
On April 20, 2013, her reality show Raising Whitley started on the Oprah Winfrey Network. It was very popular, with 1.2 million viewers. This made it one of the most-watched premieres on the network. The show was so successful that it got a second season.
Kym then joined the cast of the TV show Young & Hungry in 2014. She played Yolanda, who was a housekeeper. This show ran for five seasons until 2018. In 2017, she appeared in the web series The Bay. She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for her role in that show.
In 2018, Kym guest-starred in an episode of Master of None called "Thanksgiving." She played Aunt Joyce. The episode won an Emmy for Best Writing. Kym also became a guest host on the E! shows Daily Pop and Nightly Pop. In 2023, she played Aunt Nadine in the movie You People.
Personal life
Kym Whitley is related to actor and martial artist Michael Jai White. They are cousins. She has two older brothers named Kyle and Scott.
In January 2011, Kym adopted her son, Joshua. In 2013, Kym and her friend Rodney Van Johnson started a t-shirt line. The shirts are called "Don't Feed Me." They help caregivers know if children have certain food allergies.
