Kyp Malone's Musical Journey
Early Life and First Bands
Kyp Malone grew up in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Later, he moved to New Jersey for high school. He finished high school in 1991.
In 2000, Kyp started a band called Iran. He formed it with Aaron Aites, who is a film director and musician.
Joining TV on the Radio
Kyp later joined the popular band TV on the Radio. He joined Tunde Adebimpe and David Sitek. He has been a member of the band since their album Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes. Kyp writes songs, sings, and plays instruments for TV on the Radio. In his lyrics, he uses creative words to talk about important topics.
Other Music Projects
Kyp Malone is also a member of the band Ice Balloons. He is part of a group called The Yams Collective. He has worked with other musicians too. For example, he helped produce Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson's album Summer Of Fear in 2009.
In 2009, Kyp released his own album under the name Rain Machine. He then went on tour to share his new music. This album was produced by Ian Brennan.
Kyp has also toured and played with Jolie Holland. He was an early supporter of singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten.
In 2011, Kyp recorded music with the Malian band Tinariwen. Their album, Tassili, was recorded in the Algerian desert.

Acting Roles
Kyp Malone appeared in the 2002 indie film Scumrock. In 2015, he had a small role in the TV show Broad City. He played a music store clerk in an episode called "The Matrix."
In 2021, Kyp acted in the science fiction movie Doors.
Other Creative Work
In 2017, Kyp worked with artist Kris Lemsalu. They created a performance called Going Going for the Performa 17 festival.
Kyp also helped create some of the music for the 2018 documentary film Dreaming of a Vetter World.
In 2023, Kyp produced and played synthesizer on Matana Roberts' album Coin Coin Chapter Five: In the Garden.
