Läderach is a famous Swiss company that makes delicious chocolate and other sweet treats. It's based in Ennenda, a town in Switzerland. The company was started in 1962 by Rudolf Läderach.
Rudolf Läderach invented a special way to make hollow chocolate balls for truffles. This made it much easier to create fancy chocolates. Later, Läderach started selling its chocolates directly to customers. They opened their first factory in Bilten in 2012. By 2020, Läderach had 100 stores in 35 different countries around the world.
The Story of Läderach Chocolate
How Läderach Began
In 1970, Rudolf Läderach created and patented his special method for making hollow chocolate balls. This invention made it simpler and better to produce chocolate truffles. In 1994, Rudolf handed over the company's daily operations to his second son, Jürg Läderach.
Under Jürg's leadership, Läderach bought another chocolate company called Merkur Confiserie AG in 2004. This allowed Läderach to sell its products directly to people in stores. All the Merkur stores were then changed to Läderach stores.
The company has grown a lot over the years. In 2015, Läderach had 750 employees. By 2021, this number grew to 1,000, and by 2022, there were 1,300 people working for Läderach.
Growing Around the World
Läderach opened its first international branch in 1981 in Germany. Then, in 2019, they opened their first stores for customers outside Switzerland. These were in Toronto, Canada, and New York City in the United States.
Läderach has continued to expand, opening many more stores in the United States. As of 2020, Läderach has 100 stores across five continents.
In 2018, Johannes Läderach, Rudolf's eldest grandson, took over as the head of the company from his father, Jürg. Elias Läderach, who is a trained chocolate maker, also joined the management team. Since early 2021, David Läderach, the third son, has been in charge of the company's business in Germany.
In 2020, Läderach opened a special visitor center and museum at their factory in Bilten. It's called the "House of Läderach." In 2021, the company announced that it was opening 30 new stores in the United States. They took over locations from another chocolate company, Godiva Chocolatier.
