Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan is a super smart scientist from India and America. He is a professor at Harvard University. He studies how things move and change in the world around us. This includes everything from tiny cells to big waves.
Professor Mahadevan tries to figure out how things are shaped and how they flow. He looks at things we can see without a microscope. His work helps us understand both nature and man-made systems. He even won a special award called the MacArthur Fellowship. This award is given to very creative people.
Learning and Degrees
Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan went to college in India. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. After that, he came to the United States.
He earned more degrees from two well-known universities. He got a master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Then, he earned another master's and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1995.
His Amazing Career
Professor Mahadevan started his teaching career in 1996. He worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, also known as MIT. This is a very famous science and engineering school.
In 2000, he moved to England. He became a special professor at Cambridge University. He was the first Indian person to be a professor in their math department. This was a big achievement!
Working at Harvard
Since 2003, Professor Mahadevan has been teaching at Harvard University. Harvard is one of the oldest and most respected universities in the U.S. He even led the Applied Mathematics department there for several years.
He also helps look after students at Harvard. Since 2017, he and his wife, Amala Mahadevan, have been faculty deans. They live in Mather House, which is a home for about 400 college students.
