LACSA was a very important airline for Costa Rica. It was known as the country's flag carrier. This means it was the main airline representing Costa Rica around the world.
The airline was started by Pan Am on October 17, 1945. Its very first flight took off on June 1, 1946.
In 1992, another airline called TACA Airlines bought most of LACSA. They bought 86% of the company. After this, many of LACSA's planes were painted with the TACA Airlines design.
The original LACSA airline stopped flying in 2014. But a new version of LACSA still exists today. It is now a smaller part, or subsidiary, of a bigger airline called Avianca.
