The LaSalle–Wacker Building is a tall, impressive building in Chicago, Illinois, United States. It stands at 221 North LaSalle Street. This building is 41 stories high, making it a true skyscraper. It was finished in 1930 and is known for its beautiful Art Deco style. The building is used for offices and is a famous part of Chicago's skyline.
Building Design
The LaSalle–Wacker Building was first planned to be 37 stories tall. However, the people building it bought more land next door. This allowed them to make the building even bigger. It ended up being 41 stories high!
Materials and Style
The outside of the building is covered in limestone and granite. These materials give it a strong and elegant look. The architects who designed this amazing building were Holabird and Root. Their design shows off the popular Art Deco style of that time.
Night Lights
When the building was new, it had a special beacon light on its very top. This light was so strong that people could see it from as far away as 200 miles! Today, the building is still lit up at night. Lights shine upwards from the ground, making it glow. The very top of the building usually shines in a bright cobalt blue color. This way of lighting up buildings at night was very popular in Chicago. You can see similar lighting on other famous buildings like the Wrigley Building and the Tribune Tower.
