What is La Comedia Dinner Theatre?
At La Comedia, your evening starts with a tasty dinner served buffet style. This means you can choose from many different foods! After everyone has eaten, the lights dim, and the live show begins. Each play or musical usually runs for about 6 to 8 weeks. This gives many people a chance to see it.
The History of La Comedia
La Comedia Dinner Theatre first opened its doors on January 28, 1975. The very first show they performed was called 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'. It was directed by E. Mac Vestal, Jr.
Who Started La Comedia?
When La Comedia first opened, an advertisement invited people to enjoy an "Exciting dinner and a Live Professional Broadway Stage Play." And guess what? Both of these together cost only $6.65 back then!
The original owners were Joe and Marilyn Mitchell. They were quite young, only 27 years old, when they started this big adventure. They owned and produced shows at La Comedia until 1987.
New Owners Take Over
For many years, Joe Adkins and his family owned La Comedia. But on November 18, 2023, they announced a big change. They sold the theater to Dave and Sherry Gabert, who are from Dayton, Ohio. The Gaberts are now the new owners of this wonderful dinner theater.
