La Comedia Dinner Theatre is a special place in Springboro, Ohio, where you can enjoy a delicious meal and watch a live show! It's one of the oldest and biggest professional dinner theaters in the United States. They put on amazing shows that are like the ones you'd see on Broadway.
La Comedia has welcomed over six million guests. In 2025, it is celebrating its 50th year of entertaining families. Each year, the theater presents about 6 to 9 different plays or musicals. They also sometimes have music groups perform. When you visit, you first get to enjoy a buffet dinner, and then the live show begins! Each show usually runs for about 6 to 8 weeks.
How La Comedia Started
La Comedia Dinner Theatre first opened its doors on January 28, 1975. The very first show they performed was 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'. E. Mac Vestal, Jr. was the director for that first production.
When it first opened, an advertisement invited people to an "Exciting dinner and a Live Professional Broadway Stage Play." Both the dinner and the show cost only $6.65 back then! Joe and Marilyn Mitchell were the original owners and producers of La Comedia. They were 27 years old when they started this exciting venture. They owned the theater until 1987.
New Owners for the Theatre
In November 2023, the Adkins family, who had owned La Comedia for some time, announced that they had sold the theater. The new owners are Dave and Sherry Gabert from Dayton. They are now in charge of continuing the tradition of dinner and shows at La Comedia.
