La Esperanza was officially recognized as a CDP before the 2010 U.S. Census. It was one of five new CDPs created from parts of the older Los Villareales CDP. The other new CDPs were La Escondida, Santel, Mi Ranchito Estate, and Ranchitos del Norte.
