La Grosse Décharge Est is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into another river called La Grosse Décharge Ouest. This river is entirely located within the town of Baie-Saint-Paul.

The area around the river is mostly covered by forests. There are special roads for forestry, which is the main way people make money here. Recreational tourism, like hiking or enjoying nature, is also popular.

The river usually freezes over in early December and stays frozen until early April. It's safest to walk on the ice from mid-December to late March. The amount of water in the river changes with the seasons and how much rain or snow falls. The biggest flood usually happens in April when the snow melts.

Where the River Starts and Ends

La Grosse Décharge Est begins at a very small lake. This lake is about a hundred meters long and sits high up in the mountains, at an altitude (height above sea level) of 673 metres (2,208 ft) (about 2,208 feet). The mountains around it are quite tall, with one peak reaching 971 metres (3,186 ft) (about 3,186 feet) nearby.

The river's source is located about 17.0 kilometres (10.6 mi) (about 10.6 miles) west of downtown Baie-Saint-Paul.

From its starting point, the river flows downhill for about 6.5 kilometres (4.0 mi) (about 4 miles). During this journey, it drops 249 metres (817 ft) (about 817 feet) in height. It flows through a deep valley and even passes through another small lake along the way.

La Grosse Décharge Est eventually joins La Grosse Décharge Ouest. This meeting point is located about 11.2 kilometres (7.0 mi) (about 7 miles) west of downtown Baie-Saint-Paul.

After joining La Grosse Décharge Ouest, the water continues to flow. It travels along La Grosse Décharge Ouest for a short distance, then into the Mares River, and finally into the Rivière du Gouffre. The Rivière du Gouffre then empties into the famous St. Lawrence River in Baie-Saint-Paul.
