La Pintada is a town and a type of local area called a corregimiento in Panama. It is located in the Coclé Province. This town is also the main center for the La Pintada District.
In 2010, about 3,882 people lived in La Pintada. The town covers a land area of about 84.6 square kilometers (32.7 square miles).
Location and Nature
La Pintada is nestled in the hills. It is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) northwest of Penonomé. The Coclé del Sur River flows right along the edge of the town. This river adds to the natural beauty of the area.
Ancient History and Art
Just two kilometers (about 1.2 miles) from La Pintada, you can find amazing ancient art. These are called pre-Columbian petroglyphs. Petroglyphs are designs carved into rock. They were made by people who lived here long before Christopher Columbus arrived. These carvings give us clues about the history of the area.
Local Economy and Crafts
La Pintada is known for a few special things. It is home to the factory for Cigarros Joyas de Panamá, a famous cigar brand.
The town also has a small market where local artists sell their work. You can find many different handmade items here. One of the most popular items is the traditional Panama hat. These hats are carefully woven by skilled local craftspeople. You can also find other unique local crafts.
