La Rose Noire was started in 1991 by a Swiss chef named Gérard Dubois. The very first La Rose Noire bakery opened in Hong Kong, in a place called Pacific Place in Admiralty.

From its start, La Rose Noire grew quickly. By 2012, the company had 24 stores in Hong Kong alone. They also began to share their tasty treats with the world.
