La Troncal is an important town in Ecuador. It's located in the Cañar Province and is the main town of La Troncal Canton.
A Growing Town
For a long time, the area where La Troncal is now was mostly empty. Only a few farmers lived there until the 1950s.
How La Troncal Grew
In the 1950s, more people started to move to this area. They came from places like Azuay and other parts of the Cañar Province. These people were looking for new and better job opportunities.
Later, in the 1990s, even more people moved to La Troncal. This was because a big sugar factory, called Aztra, was growing. People from the Manabí Province came to work there. This helped the town become bigger and more important over time.
Climate
La Troncal has a warm climate. It is known as a tropical savanna climate. This means it's generally hot all year round.
Weather Details
The town gets a lot of rain, especially from January to April. The temperatures stay quite steady throughout the year.
