Azuay, also known as the Province of Azuay, is a special region in Ecuador. It is like a state or a large county. The main city and capital of Azuay is Cuenca.

Azuay is one of Ecuador's 24 provinces. It is located in the southern part of the country. The province was officially created on June 25, 1824. It covers a total area of about 8,309 square kilometers.

According to the 2010 census, about 712,127 people live in Azuay. This makes it one of the more populated provinces in Ecuador. The capital city, Cuenca, is home to many of these people.
Who Leads Azuay?
The main leader of the province is called the Provincial Prefect. In 2019, Paúl Carrasco Carpio was the Prefect. This person helps manage the province and its different areas.
