La Valley, Colorado facts for kids
La Valley is a small, quiet place in Costilla County, Colorado. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and people living together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's managed by the larger county government.
A Look Back: La Valley's History
La Valley got its name because of where it is located – in a beautiful valley! In the past, it was a bit more active. A post office was opened there in 1903. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. However, it didn't stay open for very long. It closed its doors in 1918, which was just 15 years after it first opened.
