Labadie is a small community in Franklin County, Missouri, United States. It is not a city with its own government, which is why it's called an "unincorporated community." You can find Labadie about three miles north of Gray Summit.

The Story Behind Labadie's Name

Labadie gets its name from an early settler named Sylvester L'Abaddie. He was a hunter who explored the area. Some stories say he was killed by a bear in a nearby cave, which is now called Labaddie's Cave. However, other historical records show that he actually passed away peacefully in his home in St. Louis when he was 70 years old, on July 25, 1849.

The community's first post office opened on June 7, 1855. Labaddie Creek, a local stream, flows into the Missouri River right here. This area was also once home to Labaddie Station, a stop on the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

Labadie has a few special places that are important to its history.

Historic Buildings

Two buildings in Labadie are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are officially recognized for their historical importance and are protected. These buildings are the Bethel Church and the James North House.

Labadie Energy Center

The Labadie Energy Center is a large power plant that uses coal to create electricity. It is owned by a company called Ameren and started producing power in 1970.

In 2019, a judge ordered Ameren to add special equipment to the plant. This equipment helps to reduce the amount of carbon pollution released into the air. The power plant also has a large area where coal ash (the leftover material from burning coal) is stored. Some local environmental groups have raised concerns about this ash storage area.
