Laborie's History
The first people to live in the Laborie area were likely the Arawak Amerindians. They moved here from South America around 1000 years ago. Laborie is a fishing village in the southwest of Saint Lucia. It was named after a French governor called Baron De Laborie. Long ago, this area was a common home for turtles. French settlers probably started living in what is now Laborie village in the early 1700s.
How Laborie is Governed
The Laborie District is an area that elects its own representative. Since July 2021, Alva Baptiste has been the person representing Laborie in the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia. This is like a parliament or congress where laws are made for the country.
