Lake Brisson is a freshwater lake in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is part of the Brisson River system. The lake is located in a large area called Rivière-aux-Outardes, which doesn't have a local government. This area is part of the Manicouagan Regional County Municipality in the Côte-Nord region.

A forest road runs along the east side of Lake Brisson. This road connects to other forest roads. These roads help people get to the lake. The main activity around the lake is forestry, which means growing and harvesting trees.

What is Lake Brisson Like?

Lake Brisson is found in the southern part of Rivière-aux-Outardes. The lake has a unique shape, a bit like a fish. The "tail" of the fish points north, towards where the water flows out.

The lake is about 2.4 km (1.5 mi) long. Its widest point is about 0.85 km (0.53 mi). The lake sits high up, at an elevation of 304 m (997 ft) above sea level. Inside the lake, there are three small islands.

How Water Flows from Lake Brisson

Water flows out of Lake Brisson and begins a long journey. First, it travels about 6.5 km (4.0 mi) down the Brisson River. After that, the water enters the rivière aux Anglais.

The water then flows for about 38.1 km (23.7 mi) along the Rivière aux Anglais. On its way, it passes through other lakes, like Inconnu Lake and Lac de la Rivière aux Anglais. Finally, the water from Lake Brisson reaches the Estuary of Saint Lawrence. It flows into the west bank of Baie aux Anglais, which is on the north shore of the estuary.

Where Does the Name "Brisson" Come From?

The name "Lac Brisson" comes from the Brisson River. The river was named first, and then the lake got the same name.

The official name "Lac Brisson" was formally recognized on December 5, 1968. This happened at the Place Names Bank of the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This organization is in charge of naming places in Quebec.
