Côte-Nord is a large region in Quebec, Canada. Its name means "Northern Coast" in French. This area covers a big part of the northern shore of the Saint Lawrence River's estuary and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. It's located past a town called Tadoussac.

Côte-Nord is the second largest administrative region in Quebec when you look at its land area. It covers about 247,627 square kilometres (or 95,609 square miles). In 2006, about 95,911 people lived there.

Where is Côte-Nord?

This region is in the eastern part of Quebec. It stretches along the northern coast of the Saint Lawrence River. Imagine looking at a map of Quebec; Côte-Nord is the long strip of land on the north side of the big river.

What's it Like in Côte-Nord?

Côte-Nord is known for its vast natural spaces. It has huge forests, many rivers, and a long coastline. Because it's so big, you can find different types of landscapes here.

Rivers and Dams

Many large rivers flow through Côte-Nord. These rivers are important for the region. Some of them are used to create hydroelectric power. This means they use the force of the water to make electricity.

One famous example is the Manicouagan River. It has a very large hydroelectric dam called the Barrage Daniel-Johnson. This dam helps provide electricity for many homes and businesses.

People and Communities

Even though Côte-Nord is a huge region, it doesn't have a very large population. Most people live in towns and villages along the coast. These communities often rely on industries like mining, forestry, and fishing.

Indigenous Communities

The region is also home to several First Nations communities. These groups have lived in Côte-Nord for thousands of years. They have rich cultures and traditions connected to the land and water.
