Lac is one of the 23 regions in the country of Chad. A region is like a large area or state within a country. The main city and capital of the Lac region is Bol. This region is special because it includes the part of Lake Chad that belongs to Chad.
About the Lac Region
The Lac region is divided into two main parts, which are called departments. These departments help to organize the region.
Departments of Lac
The two departments in the Lac region are:
- Mamdi: The capital city of the Mamdi department is Bol.
- Wayi: The capital city of the Wayi department is Ngouri.
Economy and Farming
The Lac region is very important for farming in Chad. It is known as the main agricultural area for the whole country.
Important Crops
Farmers in the Lac region grow many different crops. Some of the most important ones are:
- Cotton: This plant is grown for its soft fibers, which are used to make fabric.
- Groundnuts: Also known as peanuts, these are popular for food and oil.
These two crops, cotton and groundnuts, are called cash crops. This means they are grown mainly to be sold for money. Besides these, local farmers also grow other foods like rice.
