Lacey's Spring is a small place in northeastern Morgan County, Alabama, United States. It is not a city or town with its own government, but rather an unincorporated community. It sits right at the bottom of Brindlee Mountain.
This community is part of the larger Decatur Metropolitan Area. It is also included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. You can find Lacey's Spring south of Huntsville's land within Morgan County.
History of Lacey's Spring
The community of Lacey's Spring was started by three brothers from Virginia. Their names were Hopkins, John, and Theophilus Lacy. They settled here and the place became known by their family name.
In February 1831, a U.S. post office was opened in the community. When the official postal seal arrived from Washington, D.C., there was a small mistake. An extra "e" was accidentally added to the name "Lacy's Spring." That's how "Lacy's Spring" became "Lacey's Spring," and the name has stayed that way ever since!
