Laddville, California facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Laddville (sometimes called "Laddsville") was once a small community in Alameda County, California. It was located in the western part of the Livermore Valley. Today, Laddville is no longer a separate place. Its original location is now part of the growing city of Livermore.

How Laddville Started

Laddville began in 1855 because of a hotel. A man named Alphonso Ladd opened this hotel. Soon, other people started to build homes and businesses around the hotel. This small group of buildings and people became known as Laddville.

Why Laddville Disappeared

Laddville was an important spot for a while. But things changed when the railroad arrived in the Livermore Valley. In August 1869, a train station was built. This station was placed to the west of Laddville. It was closer to a new, developing town called Livermore.

As time went on, Livermore started to grow very quickly. More and more people moved there. The city of Livermore expanded its borders. Eventually, Livermore grew so much that it covered the area where Laddville used to be. This is why Laddville is now considered a "former settlement." It was absorbed into the larger city of Livermore.
