Lady Buluʼ was the mother of Wak Chanil Ajaw, who later became a queen in the city of Naranjo. She was also the stepmother to two kings of Dos Pilas: Itzamnaaj Bʼalam and Itzamnaaj Kʼawiil.

Who Was Lady Buluʼ?

Lady Buluʼ was a very important person in the Maya world. Even though she was not the king's first wife, she had a lot of political power. This means she was involved in important decisions for the kingdom.

Her Political Influence

Ancient writings on a stone monument called Naranjo Stela 24 describe Lady Buluʼ as an ochk'in kalo'mte'. This special title roughly means "western autocrat." It was usually given only to very high-ranking and powerful people in Maya society. This shows how much influence she had.
