Lady of Itzan: A Maya Queen
Lady of Itzan was born in a place called Itzan. We don't know her exact birth year. She became a queen by marrying Bʼalaj Chan Kʼawiil. He was the king of Dos Pilas. This city was a very important center of the Maya civilization.
Her Royal Family
As queen, Lady of Itzan had a significant role. She was the mother of two future kings. Her sons were Itzamnaaj Bʼalam and Itzamnaaj Kʼawiil. Both of them later ruled Dos Pilas.
It is also thought that she might have had a daughter named Wak Chanil Ajaw. Some records suggest she may have had another daughter too. King Bʼalaj Chan Kʼawiil had another wife named Lady Buluʼ. This shows that kings sometimes had more than one wife in ancient Maya times.
