Biography
Early Life and Royal Connections
Mary grew up in a big house in St James Square in London. This area was close to St James's Park and Whitehall Palace. From a young age, she was around many important and wealthy people. This was during a time called the Stuart Restoration, when the king had returned to power.
Mary followed her mother's path and started acting when she was young. She performed in many shows at King Charles II's royal court. These performances were often very grand and fancy.
When Mary was seven years old, on December 10, 1680, she received a special honor. The King officially recognized her as his daughter. She was given the last name Tudor, which was a nod to the famous Tudor family. She was also given the special rank of an Earl's daughter. This meant she had a high social standing.
In September 1683, Mary started receiving a yearly payment of £1500. This was a lot of money back then. A few months later, in February 1684, her rank was made even higher. She was then treated like the daughter of a Duke, which was a very important title.
Marriages and Family
On August 18, 1687, Lady Mary got married to Edward Radclyffe, 2nd Earl of Derwentwater. He was born in 1655 and passed away in 1705. They had four children together:
- James Radclyffe, 3rd Earl of Derwentwater (1689–1716)
- Lady Mary Tudor Radclyffe
- Charles Radclyffe (1693–1746)
- Hon. Francis Radclyffe
Mary and Lord Derwentwater separated in the year 1700. It is said that they separated because Mary did not want to become a Catholic.
After Lord Derwentwater passed away, Mary married again on May 23, 1705. Her second husband was Henry Graham. Sadly, Graham died shortly after, on January 7, 1707.
A few months later, on August 26, Mary married for a third time. Her third husband was Major James Rooke. They had one daughter together:
- Margaret Frances Disney Rooke (born around 1708 – died 1766). She later married a man named William Sheldon and had children.
Later Life
Lady Mary passed away in Paris, France, on November 5, 1726. She was 53 years old when she died.
