Lafayette is a special kind of community in southwest Virginia, United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a place where people live that isn't officially a city or town, but the government still counts its population.

Lafayette is located in eastern Montgomery County, right between the cities of Roanoke and Christiansburg. In 2010, about 449 people lived there. It's also next to a place called Elliston, and it's where the North and South parts of the Roanoke River meet.

History of Lafayette

Lafayette has an important past! The Lafayette Historic District is a special area in the community. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. This means that the buildings and places in this district are very old and important to the history of the area. They are protected so future generations can learn from them.

Climate and Weather

The weather in Lafayette is usually warm and pleasant. The area has what is called a humid subtropical climate. This means that summers are often hot and feel a bit sticky because of the humidity. Winters are generally mild, meaning they are not too cold, but they can still be cool. This type of climate is common in many parts of the southeastern United States.
