Laguna is a small community in New Mexico, United States. It's located in Cibola County, about 47 miles west of Albuquerque. Laguna is part of the Laguna Pueblo, which is a Native American reservation.
In 2020, about 1,282 people lived here. Laguna was founded in 1699. This makes it the newest of the traditional Pueblo communities in New Mexico. The people of Laguna Pueblo speak a language called Western Keresan. Each year, Laguna hosts a special feast day to honor Saint Joseph.
History of Laguna
The San Jose de la Laguna Mission and Convento is a very old church in Laguna. It was built starting in 1699. This mission church is very well-preserved. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. This means it's recognized as an important historical site.
A famous priest named Anton Docher also served in Laguna. He was known as the "Padre of Isleta."
Geography and Location
Laguna is in the eastern part of Cibola County. To its west is a place called Paraje. To the southeast is Mesita. Interstate 40 runs south of Laguna, making it easy to get there from Exit 114. The historic U.S. Route 66 also goes through the community.
The area of Laguna is about 28.3 square kilometers (10.9 square miles). All of this land is dry land, with no large bodies of water. The community includes the original settlement of Laguna. It also includes New Laguna, which is about 2.5 miles west on old Highway 66.

In 2000, there were 423 people living in Laguna. Most of the people living here were Native American, making up about 96% of the population. A small number of people were White or from other backgrounds. About 3% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
