Laguna Lake is a special place in the Los Osos Valley near San Luis Obispo, California. It is both a natural lake and a seasonal reservoir. A reservoir is like a big storage tank for water. This means it holds water during certain times of the year.
The lake sits about 121 feet (37 meters) above sea level. Water flows into Laguna Lake from small streams in the surrounding valley. The most important stream is Prefumo Creek. This creek enters the lake from the west. Prefumo Creek is also a branch, or tributary, of San Luis Obispo Creek.
Prefumo Creek also helps drain water out of Laguna Lake. The water leaves the lake from its eastern side. This water then flows into San Luis Obispo Creek.
History of Laguna Lake
Long ago, the land around Laguna Lake was part of a large ranch. This ranch was called Rancho Laguna. It was a section of the lands belonging to the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. The mission was an important settlement in early California history.
