The Lake Catherine State Park CCC Cabins are a group of four old-fashioned cabins. They were built by a special group called the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). These cabins are located in what is now Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Spring County, Arkansas.

Three of these cabins were made for people to stay in, like a hotel. They are still used that way today! The fourth cabin might have been an office. Now, it's a "nature cabin" with cool displays about the park's past and its plants and animals.

These cabins are so special that they are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are important historical buildings. Three cabins were added to the list in 1992, and the fourth one joined in 1995.

What Was the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)?

The Civilian Conservation Corps, or CCC, was a program in the United States during the 1930s. This was a time when many people didn't have jobs. The CCC helped young men find work. They built parks, roads, and buildings all over the country. Many of their projects, like these cabins, are still used today!

Cabin Number 1: A Special Design

Cabin Number 1 was the very first cabin built for visitors by the CCC. It has a unique design that you won't find in the other cabins. It's a single-story building made of wood. The outside walls are rough, and it sits on a strong stone and concrete base.

There's a screened porch on the front of the cabin that looks out over the lake. Imagine relaxing there and enjoying the view! A stone chimney on the side adds to its rustic look. Inside, the cabin has a living room, a kitchen, a hallway, a bedroom, and a bathroom. It was built in 1941.

Cabins 2 and 3: Cozy Getaways

Cabins Number 2 and Number 3 are also single-story cabins. They have a similar rustic style with rough wooden exteriors. Each cabin also has a stone chimney, perfect for a cozy fire. These two cabins were built around 1935. They continue to be popular places for park visitors to stay.

The Nature Cabin: Learning About the Park

The Nature Cabin was also built around 1935. It has the same rustic style as the other cabins. We don't know exactly what it was used for when it was first built. It might have been an office or a place for park staff.

Today, this cabin is a special place for learning. It has exhibits that teach visitors about the park's history. You can also learn about the amazing plants and animals that live in Lake Catherine State Park.
