Lake Cicott is a small, quiet community located in Jefferson Township, Cass County, Indiana. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. This community gets its name from the beautiful lake it sits right next to.
A Look Back in Time
The community of Lake Cicott was officially started, or "laid out," in the year 1868. It was named after a person named George Cicott, who was an early settler in the area. A few years later, in 1873, the first post office opened in Lake Cicott. This made it easier for people living there to send and receive mail.
Exploring Lake Cicott's Geography
The community of Lake Cicott is found at the eastern end of the actual Lake Cicott. This lake is quite special because it's the only lake in all of Cass County. It's also the southernmost glacial lake in Indiana, meaning it was formed by glaciers long ago.
The lake itself is about half a mile long and a quarter mile wide. It's not super deep, reaching a maximum depth of about 50 feet (15 m). Interestingly, no streams flow into Lake Cicott to feed it with water.
