Discovering Lake Isis
Lake Isis is a natural freshwater lake found in Highlands County, Florida. Its unique rectangular shape makes it stand out. The lake's clear water is one of its most special features.
Location and Surroundings
This lovely lake is nestled in the northern area of Avon Park. Most of the land around Lake Isis is privately owned. You'll find houses built along the west, north, and east sides of the lake. The entire southern side of the lake belongs to the Avon Park Holiness Camp. This camp has owned the property since it opened in 1939.
Accessing the Lake
Because all the land around Lake Isis is privately owned, there is no public access to the lake. This means people cannot simply walk up to the lake or use its beaches unless they own property there or are visiting the camp.
Past Uses of the Lake
Long ago, Lake Isis was a popular spot for scuba diving training. People from the local area would also use the property owned by the church camp to enjoy the lake. However, over time, rules about safety and responsibility changed. The camp had to make its property off-limits to anyone who was not officially using the camp's facilities. This was to make sure everyone stayed safe and to follow new guidelines.
