A Look Back in Time: Lake Loramie's Story
Lake Loramie is named after a French-Canadian trader named Pierre-Louis de Lorimier. In 1769, he set up a trading post here. A trading post was a place where people could trade goods like animal furs.
The lake itself was built much later, between 1844 and 1845. It was created to be a "storage reservoir." This means it held extra water for the Miami-Erie Canal system. Canals were like water highways that helped boats move goods and people across Ohio. The lake made sure the canal always had enough water to work properly.
In 1949, Lake Loramie became a state park. This made it a special place for everyone to visit and enjoy nature.
