Lake Maxinkuckee is a large and beautiful lake in Indiana, a state in the United States. It is the second biggest natural lake in Indiana. The lake covers about 1,864 acres (7.5 km²). The town of Culver, Indiana is right on its northwestern side.

Lake Maxinkuckee is quite deep. Its deepest point is 88 feet (27 meters). On average, the lake is about 24 feet (7 meters) deep. Many people enjoy visiting the lake. They do fun activities like ice fishing when the lake freezes over in winter.

Who Lived Here First?

Long ago, the first people to live around Lake Maxinkuckee were Native Americans. These groups included the Potawatomi and Miami tribes. They were also known as Mound Builders. This name comes from the large earth mounds they built.

One of the biggest mounds was called "Pare Mound." It was likely used as an important landmark by the Native Americans. It helped them find their way around the lake.

Early Settlers and Culver Academy

The first European settlers arrived at Lake Maxinkuckee in 1836. Later, in 1894, a man named Henry Harrison Culver started something special. He founded the Culver Military Academy. The town of Culver is named after him.
