Lake Redstone is a beautiful artificial lake located in La Valle. You can find it in the northern part of Sauk County, in the state of Wisconsin, United States. It's a popular spot for many people.

Discovering Lake Redstone

Lake Redstone is not a natural lake. It is a type of lake called a reservoir. A reservoir is an artificial lake where water is stored. People build reservoirs by creating a dam across a river or stream. This helps to collect and hold water.

Lake Redstone was created by building a dam across Big Creek. This dam helps to control the water flow. The lake is located in Sauk County. It is about seven miles from Reedsburg. It is also only three miles from LaValle.

How Lake Redstone Was Made

The building of Lake Redstone started in 1964. It took time and effort to create this large body of water. The lake now covers an area of about 650 acres (2.6 square kilometers). That's like more than 490 football fields!

The lake has a long shoreline, stretching over 17 miles (27 kilometers). This means there's lots of space along the edges of the lake. The lake itself is about 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometers) long.

Water Flow and the Dam

Lake Redstone gets its water from a large area called a watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a single body of water. For Lake Redstone, its watershed is about 19,200 acres (77.7 square kilometers). This area is to the north, coming from Juneau County. All the rain and snowmelt from this huge area flows into the lake.

The dam is at the very south end of Lake Redstone. It has a special design called a "top draw spillway." This means that when there's too much water in the lake, the extra water flows over the top of the spillway. This creates a pretty cascading waterfall! All this extra water eventually flows into the Baraboo River.

Lake Community

Even though Lake Redstone is an artificial lake, it has a strong community around it. There isn't a required group for all property owners. However, many owners choose to join the Lake Redstone Property Owners Association. This group helps to look after the lake and its surroundings. They work to keep the lake a great place for everyone.
