Discover Lake Weir

Lake Weir is a big, beautiful lake. It is located in the southern part of Marion County, Florida. It's a popular spot for fishing and enjoying the outdoors.

Where is Lake Weir?

Lake Weir is found in southern Marion County, Florida. It is a very large lake! Sometimes people think it is part of the Harris chain of lakes. These lakes are to the southeast. But Lake Weir is not directly connected to them by water. It does connect to Little Lake Weir on its west side. This connection is a canal filled with plants.

What's in a Name?

The lake was named after Nathaniel A. Ware. He was a state land official a long time ago. But his name was accidentally spelled wrong when it was recorded. That's why it's called "Weir" instead of "Ware."
