Lake Yahola is a large lake in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was finished in 1924. Its main job is to hold water before it's cleaned and sent to homes.
This lake is owned by the city of Tulsa. It can hold about 2 billion gallons of water. The lake gets its water from Lake Spavinaw through a big pipeline. You can find Lake Yahola in Mohawk Park. It's right next to the Mohawk Water Treatment Plant.
About Lake Yahola
Lake Yahola covers about 437 acres, which is like 330 football fields! It is about 18.5 feet deep on average.
The first water treatment plant here started working in 1929. It could clean 90 million gallons of water every day. A new plant was built in 1998. It was designed to clean even more water, up to 100 million gallons daily. Today, the Mohawk plant can clean as much as 200 million gallons of water each day.
Fun Activities at Lake Yahola
Lake Yahola is also a place where people can have fun. You can go boating and fishing there. However, the docks are closed to the public. This means you cannot use them for boating.
Fishing is allowed from certain spots along the shore. So, if you like to fish, you can still enjoy the lake!
Right next to the lake is the Oxley Nature Center. This is a very popular spot for bird watching. Many different kinds of birds can be seen there.
