The area where Lakeview is now was first settled in the mid-1880s. It was known as Trimble Flat. This name came from the Trimble family, who were the first settlers. They lived on a flat, fertile area that looked over the White River.

Later, a school and a post office were built. They were both named Amos. However, the community, its church, and the cemetery kept the name Trimble Flat for a while.
