Lake View is a small community in DeSoto County, Mississippi. It is very close to the border of Mississippi and Tennessee. You can find it just south of Memphis.
Lake View is known as a census-designated place. This means it's an area that the government counts for population. However, it does not have its own local city government. It's also an unincorporated community, which means it's not part of an official town or city.
A Look Back in Time
Lake View has an interesting past. It was once located along the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad tracks. This railroad was important for travel and trade.
During a time called Prohibition, it was against the law to make or sell alcohol. Some business owners from Memphis opened nightclubs in Lake View. These places were popular during that time.
A post office served the community for many years. It was called "Lake View" from 1885 to 1895. Then, its name changed slightly to "Lakeview" from 1895 to 1932.
From 1910 to 1928, a special railway connected Memphis and Lake View. It was called the Memphis and Lakeview Railway. This 10-mile track had four streetcars that carried people back and forth.
There was also a factory in Lake View called the Valley Brick and Tile Company. This factory made bricks and tiles.
Lake View was first officially counted as a census-designated place in the 2020 Census. At that time, its population was 299 people.
