Lamèque is a community located in Gloucester County, New Brunswick, Canada. It used to be a town on its own. Now, Lamèque is part of a larger town called Île-de-Lamèque.
The name "Lamèque" comes from an old language. It is from the Micmac language, an Indigenous language. The word "Elmugwadasik" means "the head of the tidal river is turned to one side." This describes how the water flows there.

A New Chapter for Lamèque
Lamèque became a village on November 6, 1966. Later, it became a town on September 1, 1982. On January 1, 2023, Lamèque joined with other nearby areas. These included the village of Sainte-Marie-Saint-Raphaël. They all formed a new, bigger town. This new town is called Île-de-Lamèque. Even though it's part of a new town, the name Lamèque is still used for the community.

Lamèque is also known for its music. Since 1975, it has hosted a special music festival. This festival happens every summer. It features baroque music, which is a type of classical music.
