First Conquest: The Pocras and Chancas
The first group to settle Lamas were the Pocras and a group of Chancas. These groups were defeated in a battle called Yahuarpampa by the Inca army led by Pachacútec in 1438. After their defeat, they left their original lands, like Ayacucho, and moved into the forest.
They found a good place to live on a hill where Lamas is today. This area was already home to some local groups. Ankoallo, a leader of the Pocras, is believed to be the person who founded the town of Lamas.
