Svetlana “Lana” Yarosh is a smart professor at the University of Minnesota. She teaches and does research in the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering. She's known for being a great teacher and has received special awards for her work. Lana is part of a research group called GroupLens Research, where they study how people use computers.

Lana Yarosh studied at two big universities. In 2005, she earned her first degree in Computer Science and Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. Later, in 2012, she got her advanced degree (a Ph.D.) from Georgia Institute of Technology. Her special focus was on Human-Centered Computing, which is all about designing technology that's easy and helpful for people to use.

Her Career and Research

Before becoming a professor, Lana worked at AT&T Labs for two years. Then, she joined the University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering.

Lana's research explores how people and computers interact. She is very interested in how children use computers and how technology can help people connect socially. Her ideas have even led to special inventions! For example, she helped create a way to have video chats using a special screen you wear. She also worked on a system for big video calls that lets different groups talk separately.

Teaching and Sharing Knowledge

Lana started teaching at the University of Minnesota in 2014. She teaches many different computer science classes. These include courses on how to design computer programs and how to create user-friendly interfaces. Some of her course materials are even available online for anyone to learn from on Coursera.

She also helped create a series of videos for CrashCourse on YouTube. These videos teach about Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is when computers can think and learn like humans. The series started in 2019, helping many people learn about this exciting topic.
