History of Lanark
Lanark started as a settlement in the early 1870s. This happened when the Texas and Pacific Railway built its tracks through the area. A railway often helped new towns grow.

A post office opened in Lanark in 1873. It stayed open until 1877. Having a post office was important for a community. It connected people to the outside world.
However, there were problems with getting land grants. These are special permissions to own land. Because of these issues, some people moved away. They went to nearby towns like Queen City or Atlanta.
