Discovering Lancôme: A World of Beauty

The Story Begins: How Lancôme Started

Lancôme was created in France in 1935 by two friends, Guillaume d'Ornano and Armand Petitjean. They first wanted to make wonderful fragrances. The name "Lancôme" came from a beautiful old castle in France called Château de Lancosme. This castle is in the Brenne region, which is in the heart of France. Guillaume's wife, Elisabeth d'Ornano, chose this name. The many roses growing around the castle inspired the company's symbol: a single golden rose.

In 1935, Lancôme introduced its very first five perfumes at a big event called the World's Fair in Brussels. These perfumes had unique names like Tendre Nuit and Tropiques. Soon after, in 1936, Armand Petitjean decided to create skincare products too. He launched "Nutrix," a special cream designed to help repair skin. Over time, Lancôme grew to offer many different makeup and skincare items. In 1964, a large beauty company called L'Oréal bought Lancôme, and it became one of their special luxury brands.

Lancôme makes a variety of products to help people look and feel their best. These include beautiful fragrances, helpful skincare items, and colorful makeup.

Their perfumes are created by many talented perfumers who mix different scents to make unique and memorable fragrances. Lancôme's skincare products aim to keep skin healthy and glowing, while their makeup helps people express their creativity and enhance their features.

Sharing the Story: Lancôme's Advertising

Even though one of the founders, Armand Petitjean, once thought Lancôme wouldn't need to advertise, today it's one of the biggest advertisers in the beauty world! You can see Lancôme ads in magazines and online everywhere. Famous photographers have taken pictures for their campaigns, making the ads look very artistic and appealing.

Lancôme has also worked with well-known people to represent their brand. For example, the famous actress Isabella Rossellini was the international face of Lancôme for 14 years! She even returned to work with them again in 2016, more than 30 years after she first started. In 2006, actor Clive Owen became the first male spokesperson for Lancôme. He helped introduce their new skincare line for men and a men's fragrance called Hypnôse Homme. These partnerships help share Lancôme's story and products with people all over the world.
