Landvetter is a town located in Härryda Municipality, in the Västra Götaland County of Sweden. In 2010, about 7,152 people lived here. It's the second largest town in its municipality.
Landvetter and Its Famous Airport
Landvetter is well-known because it gave its name to a big international airport. This airport is called Göteborg Landvetter Airport. It's located about 5 kilometers (about 3 miles) east of the town. Many people travel through this airport every day!
Some airlines used to have their main offices right at the airport. For example, City Airline had its head office in the Air Cargo Building. Also, when Transwede Airways was around, its main office was on the airport property too.
What's in the Name?
The name "Landvetter" is quite interesting! It's a mix of two old words. "Land" means, well, land. The second part, "vittir," is an old Swedish word. It was used to describe a special kind of fire. So, the name has a cool historical meaning!
