Lanes Prairie is a small, quiet place in eastern Maries County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it's usually governed by the county or state.

Lanes Prairie is located just east of Missouri Route 28. You can find it on county road 419. The town of Belle is about seven miles north if you travel on Route 28. Vienna is another nearby town, about twelve miles west. You can reach Vienna by taking Missouri routes Z and 42.

History of Lanes Prairie

The history of Lanes Prairie dates back to the mid-1800s. A post office was first opened here in 1851. It was originally called Lane's Prairie. The community was named after Charles Lane. He was an early settler and an important pioneer citizen in the area. Pioneer citizens were among the first people to settle and build communities in new territories.
