Lanjarón is a small town and municipality in the Alpujarras region of Andalusia, Spain. It is located in the province of Granada.
This town is well-known for its old castle ruins and special chalybeate baths. These baths use water that is rich in iron.
However, Lanjarón is most famous for its bottled water company. This company was the first of its kind in Spain. Its water products are sold all over the country.
The Water Fight Fiesta
Every year on June 23rd, Lanjarón celebrates its annual San Juan fiesta. This event is known as the biggest water fight in Spain!
People come from all over to join the "midnight madness." For one hour, from midnight until 1 AM, the streets fill with people. Everyone brings buckets, water pistols, and even fire hoses. Sometimes, lorries (trucks) full of water join the fun too!
Famous Fountains
Lanjarón has many fountains spread throughout its streets and plazas (public squares). Most of these fountains have a short phrase or poem written on them. Many of these poems are by the famous Spanish writer Federico García Lorca.
Locals and visitors often use these fountains to drink water and rest. The fountains within the town usually have chlorinated water.
Outside of town, there are three fountains with fresh spring water. The local spa also has its own fountains, where you can get water for a small fee.
