Laos, a country in Southeast Asia, has been part of the exciting Summer Olympic Games many times. They are officially known as the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Even though they have competed in seven Summer Olympics, they haven't yet won an Olympic medal. Laos has not participated in the Winter Olympic Games.
The group that helps organize sports for Laos in the Olympics is called the National Olympic Committee of Laos. This committee was created in 1975. The International Olympic Committee, which runs the Olympic Games, officially recognized Laos's committee in 1979.
Laos at the Summer Olympics
Laos first joined the Summer Olympics in 1980. That year, 20 athletes from Laos competed in the Games held in Moscow. After that, they missed the 1984 Olympics.
Since 1988, Laos has sent athletes to every Summer Olympic Games. They have sent small teams, usually with 3 to 6 athletes. These athletes compete in various sports. So far, Laos has not won any Olympic medals. They continue to participate, showing their spirit in the world of sports.
