Lara Flynn Boyle (born March 24, 1970) is an American actress. She is famous for her role as Donna Hayward in the popular TV series Twin Peaks (1990–1991). She also appeared in hit movies like the comedy Wayne's World (1992) and as the alien villain Serleena in Men in Black II (2002).
From 1997 to 2003, Boyle starred as Helen Gamble in the legal drama The Practice. Her performance earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award, one of the highest honors in television.

Early life
Lara Flynn Boyle was born in Davenport, Iowa. Her parents were Sally Flynn and Michael L. Boyle. Her grandfather on her father's side was Charles A. Boyle, who was a U.S. Representative, a type of politician who helps make laws for the country. She has Irish, German, and Italian roots.
Her name comes from a character in the famous novel Doctor Zhivago. When she was six, her father left, and she and her mother moved. Around this time, she was diagnosed with dyslexia, which can make reading and writing challenging. Boyle grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and Wisconsin. She later graduated from The Chicago Academy for the Arts.
Career

Boyle's acting career began with a small part in the 1986 teen comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Even though her scenes were cut from the final movie, this role helped her join the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), an important group for actors. She then appeared in the TV miniseries Amerika in 1987.
After a few smaller roles, she got a main part in the horror film Poltergeist III (1988). She was also cast in the drama Dead Poets Society (1989), but her scenes were removed from the final version.
Breakthrough with Twin Peaks
In 1989, director David Lynch cast Boyle as Donna Hayward in his TV series Twin Peaks. This role made her famous around the world. The show was about the mystery of who killed a high school student named Laura Palmer. Boyle played Laura's best friend, Donna, who tries to solve the case.
Twin Peaks started on April 8, 1990, and quickly became a huge hit. Boyle appeared in all 30 episodes of the show. While working on Twin Peaks, she also acted in movies like The Rookie (1990) and Mobsters (1991).
Success in Movies and Television

After Twin Peaks, Boyle's movie career took off. She starred with her Twin Peaks co-star Kyle MacLachlan in the drama Where the Day Takes You (1992). That same year, she played Stacy in the popular comedy Wayne's World.
In 1993, she starred in the thriller The Temp and the crime film Red Rock West with Nicolas Cage. The following year, she appeared in the family comedy Baby's Day Out (1994).
In 1997, Boyle began starring in the TV series The Practice as Assistant District Attorney Helen Gamble. The show was very successful, and she stayed on for six seasons. For her work, she was nominated for an Emmy Award.
In 2002, Boyle played one of her most famous movie roles. She was the main villain, a shapeshifting alien named Serleena, in the science-fiction comedy Men in Black II.
Later Work
In 2005, Boyle joined the cast of the TV show Las Vegas for several episodes. She also guest-starred on an episode of the popular crime show Law & Order in 2008.
Over the next few years, she appeared in several independent films. After taking a five-year break from acting, she returned in the 2020 movie Death in Texas.
Personal life
From 1990 to 1992, Boyle was in a relationship with her Twin Peaks co-star, Kyle MacLachlan.
She has been married two times. She married John Patrick Dee III in 1996, and they divorced two years later. In 2006, she married Donald Ray Thomas II, a real estate investor.
