Larry Marshall (born April 3, 1943) is an American actor and singer. He is well-known for his work in musical theater and films.

Early Life and Education

Larry Marshall was born in 1943 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He grew up in both South Carolina and New York. As a child, he loved music. He even started a singing group called the Dell Chords with his friends. They sang a style of music called doo-wop.

Later, Larry studied at several universities. These included Fordham University, Xavier University, and the New England Conservatory of Music.

Career Highlights

While still in college, Larry got a part in the famous opera Porgy and Bess. He toured with this show around the world. After finishing school, he kept performing in Porgy and Bess. He even performed it on Broadway, which is the highest level of theater in New York City.

Larry became very famous for playing the character Sportin' Life in Porgy and Bess. His performance was so good that he was nominated for two major awards: a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award. He continued to play this role for many years.

Besides Porgy and Bess, Larry Marshall appeared in other popular Broadway shows. These include Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Full Monty, and The Color Purple. He also performed in the New York Shakespeare Festival, which puts on plays by William Shakespeare.
